'99********************
Hello Folks!
This is our third newsletter. Hope you all had a wonderful summer!
Again, I appreciate your business and hope this newsletter helps you get
through some of those pesky tasks. I will try to provide tips for
all of us, since we all have unique operating systems and preferences.
This month we have added a new topic to the newsletter:
Windows Help
As always, I appreciate your feedback, so if you would like to see some
tips on specific subjects let me know by sending me an e-mail @

AOL: "TRACK STOCK NEWS & PRICES?"
AOL's Portfolio Direct sends you the closing prices for stocks and
mutual funds in your portfolio at the end of every trading day. Better
still, Portfolio Direct also sends you news briefs on those
stocks--you can read the whole article by clicking the full story
link. You can sign up by entering the ticker symbols for up to 20
stocks and funds. If you'd like, you can also select to have the
values for market indices--such as the S&P 500--sent with your daily
e-mail. After you select the information you want, just click the
Subscribe button to begin receiving daily and weekly summaries of your
investments' performance. You can even select the news sources you
want used in the report. (You can later change your selections or
unsubscribe by returning to the same form.)

AOL: "WHAT DOES THAT PILL REALLY DO?"
AOL's Online Pharmacy hooks you up with information about prescription
and over-the-counter drugs, as well as vitamins, supplements, and
herbs. The drug database is provided through InteliHealth, which is
affiliated with Johns Hopkins University. In addition to providing
descriptions of drugs your doctor may prescribe, it also contains
feature articles about drugs, vitamins, and supplements. You can even
send a question to a pharmacist or read previously posted answers. In
addition to the InteliHealth link, the Online Pharmacy also offers
links to relevant guides--including medicine for children and drug
interactions--and to online drug stores (they are advertisers).

Internet Explorer: "Upgrade to Internet Explorer 5.0"
"Should I upgrade to 5.0?", is a question I get allot. The
answer is : ABSOLUTELY!!! The fact is, there are
not many upgrades out there these days that aren't worth the upgrade.
If you are a heavy Internet user, like I am, it is especially worth it.
If you find yourself signing up for a lot of stuff on the web, constantly
having to put your e-mail address in, you'll love this! Simply
double-click in the empty box, and watch your e-mail address appear.
Its great. That's just one of the features of 5.0. It also
comes with the Outlook Express 5.0, which is awesome. Download today
at http://tucows.nantucket.net/adnload/dlmsie50.html you'll be happy you
did!

Outlook Express "Dress Up that Boring E-Mail"
Do you see only plain text in your incoming and outgoing e-mails? Pretty
boring huh? Well, try this: Go Up to Tools, Options.
When the window appears, click on "Send'. Look down where it
says "Mail Sending Format", and click "HTML"
That's it! Your messages will now have a little pizzazz! For
example. this newsletter should have color, and bold text in it. If
it doesn't, make those changes, and re-open the newsletter.

Windows 95/98 - " ALT-TAB TRICK"
Press and hold down the Alt key as you continually press Tab to
rotate through
all open windows (represented by icons in a gray box). When the window you
want
appears highlighted, release the Alt key.
If you find yourself frequently switching back and forth between two
windows in any given work session, there's a shortcut you should know
about: The last window you switched to using the Alt-Tab method is
always the one that appears first in that gray box. Point being? All
you have to do is press Alt-Tab once to switch to the other window.
Press Alt-Tab to switch back again, and so on. You don't even need to
look at the screen!

Ok Scott, I have had it up to "here" with all these acronyms,
now what does THAT one mean??
Ok, Ok, yes, the geeks are busy making new acronyms for computers all the
time. Yes, even I get confused, and that's after 16 years in the
government, the undisputed "King of All Acronyms"!
Let's clear a few up, shall we?

RAM
Disk Space
24X CD-ROM
|
World Wide Web. (aka Internet, the web, the Net)
This is called a "domain name', ie; If you are You@aol.com,
then AOL is your "domain"
Random Access Memory, This is "emptied" every time you
shut-down your computer.
The remaining room on your "Hard Disk"
Don't confuse this with RAM. Many people say
"memory" when they mean hard disk space.
Compact-Disc-Read-Only-Memory. The new recordable CD-ROM
drives are called CD/RW, which means read/write. The ??x
speed means how fast your cd-rom drive is when compared to your home
CD player. Interesting huh?
