*****************Issue 3, Volume 2 - May/Jun '00****************
Hello Folks!
Hope all is well with everyone!
Well, the warm weather is finally here. As always,
I hope this newsletter helps you stay on your course of forever
improving your computer skills, and help get through some of those pesky
tasks.
I will try to provide tips for all of us, since we all have unique operating
systems, preferences and levels of experience.
Please keep the feedback coming, I have received some great e-mails from a
variety of people. Don't forget, this is your newsletter, so if you would
like to see some tips on specific subjects let me know by sending me an
e-mail @ tips@wazdisdo.com - Scott

AOL: Hearing Voices
Fickle folk that we are, the dulcet default tones of
the "You've Got Mail," "Welcome," and "Goodbye"
incantations can pale. To liven up that choir, hire new
throats. Go to keyword Celebrity Voices and download
replacements from the likes of Mick Jagger, David
Letterman, Rosie O'Donnell, and LL Cool J.

AOL: QUICK URL UP
On any version of AOL: 3.0, 4.0 or 5.0 you can go from
viewing a non-hyperlinked printed web address, such as
http://www.wazdisdo.com in the time it takes you to
highlight and punch in four keystrokes.
Here's how:
1. Highlight the address with your mouse.
2. Hold down the Ctrl key.
3. Press the C key. (This copies the address.)
4. Press the K key. (This opens the Keyword dialog box.)
5. Press the V key. (This pastes the address into the Keyword dialog box.)
6. Click on Go or press the Return key. This tells AOL to
go to that keyword.
Voila! You're on your web page!

AOL: Read All Over
When you send email to other AOL members, you
can tell if they've read it or not.
1. Open the Mail menu.
2. Click on the Mail You've Sent.
3. In the Outgoing Mail window, click on the message of
interest.
4. Click on Show Status.

Windows Tip:
(A frequently asked question)
CANCEL PRINT JOB
Just send a bunch of documents to the printer, and now you've changed
your mind? Rather than waste all that paper, use the printer queue to
cancel what you can.
Select Start, Settings, Printers, and double-click your printer's icon
to display its queue, or list of pending jobs. Right-click the job
you'd like to cancel and select Cancel Printing. Immediately, that
document disappears from the list.
(Tip-in-a-tip: If a long document is already in the process of
printing, canceling that job will stop it midway.)

Internet Explorer: ALPHABETIZE FAVORITES
This is a great little tip, if you don't know it already.
Just click the Favorites menu (the pull-down, not the Favorites button),
then select
a favorite link and right-click. From the menu that appears, choose
Sort By Name. (P.S. This also works with the Win 98/2000 programs menu)

Internet Explorer: CLEAR AUTOCOMPLETE ENTRY
Here's a question I get from time to time:
"Is there a way to edit the AutoComplete list to remove some
errors? Or do you have to clear the whole list?"
When the list pops up, just use your cursor keys to select the
incorrect entry. Then press the Delete key to remove it.
*******************************************************
Internet Explorer: INTELLIGENT MOUSE
If you use a Microsoft Intellimouse for browsing, consider this speedy
trick. To navigate quickly, press the Shift key and move the mouse
wheel up to go back to the page you last visited and down to go
forward. In addition, you can increase the size of the page by
pressing the Ctrl key, then rolling down to zoom in, up to zoom out.
*******************************************************
Outlook Express: New Folder
Creating a new folder to help organize your e-mail is
easy:
1. Open File, Folder, New Folder.
2. In the Create Folder dialog box, type a name for the
folder.
3. Still in the dialog box, if you want this new folder
to be tucked inside some other folder, click that other
folder.
4. Click OK.

This month's Cool Web Site:
BRITANNICA.COM
http://www.britannica.com
If this site were merely an online transcription of this 232-year-old
encyclopedia, it would be worth visiting. But fortunately for
knowledge hungry Web-surfers everywhere, it's much, much more. Type in
a keyword or two and you'll get a complete EB entry on the subject.
But alongside it will be recent magazine articles, books, and related
Web sites from EB's database of over 125,000 reviews. If you don't
know exactly what you're looking for, start exploring subsections like
Health, Science, or Philosophy. There are also detailed news sections
(including financial and sports news) and weather information. And to
top it off, they've thrown in a searchable version of the
Merriam-Webster's Collegiate Dictionary. The whole thing's free, but
if you absolutely love paper, you can order the hardcover edition for
only $1250!
