helps you get through some of those pesky tasks.  I will try to provide tips
for all of us, since we all have unique operating systems and preferences.

As always, I appreciate your feedback, so if you would like to see some tips

AOL:  "LOWER AIR FARES WITH FAREFINDER"

AOL provides its members with free access to Farefinder, a service of
Preview Travel.  Using Farefinder is easy.  You choose the city you want to
depart from, and Farefinder shows you a list of lowest-priced
flights to destination cities.  (Right now, this service is limited to major
cities.) Click the destination city for flight details.  If you'd prefer to
drive, you can also follow the link to Carfinder to look for
low rental car rates.

AOL:  "ORGANIZE THOSE FAVORITE PLACES"

Selecting a site to include in your Favorite Places folder is as easy as
clicking the heart icon in the top right of your screen and then clicking
the Add to Favorites button.  So easy, in fact, that you may
have a list so long that finding the Favorite Place you want is hard.
Creating folders is almost as easy, and it can help you organize your
favorites:

1.  Choose Favorites + Favorite Places.
2.  Click the New button in the Favorite Places dialog box.
3.  Click the New Folder radio button.
4.  Type a name for your folder.
5.  Click OK or press Enter.
6.  Back in the Favorite Places dialog box, click and drag the relevant
favorite places into your new folder.
Now, whenever you click the Favorites menu, you see the folder you
created, and you should be able to find your favorites much more
easily.

AOL:  "GET LOCAL LISTINGS ONLINE"

AOL provides easy access to Digital City's Movie Guide, which allows you to
access times and places for movies in large cities throughout the U.S.  Just
select your city--say, Charlotte or Boston--from a
drop-down list.  Then click the movie you'd like to see.  You get a list of
theaters and show times.

Keyword: Local Movies

Internet Explorer:  "ORGANIZE YOUR FAVORITES...Better"

Here's a way to alphabetize your Favorites list quickly.  Select Favorites,
then right-click and choose Sort By Name.  What if you want to move a
particular favorite to the top of the list?  Click the Favorites button on
the toolbar.  The Favorites pane opens.  Select the favorite you want to
affect from the list.  Click Alt-up arrow to move the item up in the list.
Click  Alt-down arrow to push the favorite down in the list.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Internet Explorer:  "SMARTER BACK AND FORWARD"

Before you click the Back and Forward buttons several times to revisit a
site, try this instead: Click the downward-pointing arrow next to the Back
and Forward buttons.  You'll see a list of all the sites
you've opened since launching the browser.  Choose a site to jump to it.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Outlook Express "ANNOUNCING YOUR MAIL"

"Is there any way to have Outlook Express say 'You've got mail,' just
like in the movie?"

It's no problem to have any WAV file announce your mail.  We suspect that
the sound byte played in the movie is copyrighted by America Online.  Even
so, you can probably find a suitable sound on the
Internet.  Try searching for

.wav, and see what you find.  (you'll be amazed)

Once you locate a sound you want to use, click Start, Settings, Control
Panel.  When Control Panel opens, double-click the Sounds icon. When the
Sounds Properties dialog box opens, scroll down through the
Events list and click New Mail Notification.  Now, click Browse and locate
your new sound file.  Double-click its icon to select it as your new mail
notification.  Finally, click OK to close the Sounds
Properties dialog box and apply your selection.

The next time you have new mail, you'll hear your new
announcement--just like in the movie.

Windows 95/98 - " DISPOSE OF THAT PROGRAM PROPERLY"

In the old days, before Windows 95 (and they are starting to seem like
the "old days," aren't they?), you deleted an application by selecting
the application files and pressing Delete--and enduring any number of
consequences. In an attempt to eliminate (or minimize) such
consequences, Windows 95/98 has added a little program that helps you
delete applications safely and CORRECTLY. So when you want to delete
an application, follow these steps:

1. Click Start.
2. Choose Settings + Control Panel.
3. In the Control Panel window, double-click the Add/Remove Programs
icon.
4. Under "The following software can be automatically removed by
Windows..." select the application you want to remove.
5. Click Add/Remove and follow the instructions to remove the
application. It will show you dialog boxes to assist you in the
process.

Special sections on Viruses:  - Practice Abstinence!

OK, so you have a Anti-Virus program (Norton is my pref).  Does this mean
you are IMMUNE to viruses?
Unfortunately not.  You are without a doubt better protected, but not
immune.  So what do you do?  Well, here's a simple thing to do in regard to
e-mail viruses (the most common). Don't open any e-mail or attachment that
is from someone you do not know!  It sounds simple enough, yet I hear about
people doing it all the time.  So, our Anti-Virus phrase of the month is
"Practice Abstinence"
